Contributors and Back Matter Vol 34
<plain_text><page sequence="1">Contributors to this volume Professor Geoffrey Alderman is Head of the Academic Development and Quality Assurance Unit at Middlesex University. He is the author of Modern British Jewry, published by Oxford University Press in 1992. Cecil Bloom lives in Leeds and was, until his retirement, Technical Director of a major multinational Pharmaceutical corporation. This is his fourth paper to be published in Transactions. He also presented a paper to the Society's Centenary meeting in 1993. Audrey Burton has focused since 1977 on the history, trade and external rela? tions of the Bukharan khanate, working in Soviet and British manuscript reposit? ories and libraries, and also in Israel. A PhD thesis (Manchester), articles and a book on external relations (1550-1701) have been completed. Joe Hillaby, Research Fellow, University of Bristol, and joint winner of the A.S. Diamond Prize (1990), has published studies of the medieval Jewries of London, Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester and of the synagogues of medieval England. Anthony Joseph is a general medical practitioner in Birmingham, and a leading authority on the genealogy of British and Australian Jewry. He served as President of this Society, 1994-6. Charles Meyers is a professional librarian with a BA in History and Hebrew; an MA in Social Science; an MLS in Library Science and several years of PhD work in European and American history. Ruth Sebag-Montefiore was born in 1916. She is the daughter of Laurie Magnus, author and literary critic, and Dora, daughter of Sir Isidore Spielmann. During the war she worked at Bletchley Park. Her book, A Family Patchwork, was published in 1987. Robin R. Mundill is a Housemaster and teacher at Christ's Hospital. He has lectured widely on medieval Anglo-Jewry in this country and abroad. His book on Edwardian Anglo-Jewry is to be published by CUP in the coming year. Zefira Entin Rokeah, who has published various articles about medieval Anglo Jewry, is now working on her second calendar of entries of Jewish interest in the English memoranda rolls (this time, for 1250-66). 251</page><page sequence="2">Contributors to this volume Nicholas Vincent was for five years a Fellow of Peterhouse, Cambridge, before taking up his present appointment as Reader in History at Christ Church College, Canterbury. He has published widely on Anglo-French history in the 12th and 13th centuries and his most recent book, on the blood relics of medieval Europe, is due out from Cambridge University Press in 1997. Barry Weinberg, founder/director of the Greater London Jewish Music Ensemble and 'Klezmer Connection', is an internationally recognized authority on Jewish music. He is well known in the Jewish-music world as lecturer, researcher, performer and occasional radio broadcaster. 252</page><page sequence="3">Notes for contributors to Society publications Contributors should follow these guidelines in presenting their texts, in order to keep each stage of publication as simple and as inexpensive as possible. Texts and notes should be typed on one side only of A4 paper, with 30 double spaced lines on each full page. Please try to avoid ending lines with a hyphen. Pages should be numbered in complete sequence, without added V or V pages. The title of the contribution, the name of the author and any subheadings in the text, should be in upper- and lower-case letters, on separate lines, and not be underlined. Please leave additional space above and below to aid recognition. Subheadings should ideally be of no more than 2 grades. Each should be marked 'A' or 'B' to indicate its grade. The opening paragraph, and the first paragraph after any subheading, should not be indented; others should be indented 5 spaces. No additional space should be left between paragraphs. Quotations should be in English, and appear in single inverted commas. Quota? tions appearing in the course of these should be in double inverted commas. Longer quotations - of about 100 words or 10 typed lines - should be preceded and followed by an empty line and without inverted commas. Quotations in the course of these should be in single inverted commas. Words omitted in the course of a quotation should be indicated by 2 full stops. If the end of a sentence is omitted, 4 full stops should be used. Square parentheses should be placed round comments inserted by the author in a quotation. In matters of spelling, the Concise Oxford Dictionary is followed, with a prefer? ence for 'z' spellings of words ending in 'ize\ For abbreviations, capitalization and italicization, Hart's Rules should be consulted. Dates should be written as '27 April 1994'. All measurements should be given in metric form, unless they are quoted directly from a source. Notes are now printed at the end of each contribution, making them relatively inaccessible, so contributors should include in them bibliographical material only, and normally not use them for remarks, which, however trangential or tentative, could be included even parenthetically in the main text. Their position in the text should be indicated by a complete sequence of superior numerals (i.e. 1 or 2) without additional 'a' or V notes and without parentheses, ringing, etc. The numerals should be typed after any punctuation. Type the notes themselves at the end of the contribution. They should be arranged and punctuated as follows: 1 R. D. Barnett, 'Diplomatic aspects of the Sephardi Influx . .Trans JHSE XXV (1977) 210-22. 253</page><page sequence="4">Notes for Contributors 2 H. Loewe (ed.) Indicate the position of illustrations in the text. Supply clear monochrome prints, as near as possible to the final desired size. Two copies should be supplied of the captions: one on a separate sheet, and the other stuck on the back of each plate, starting with the plate number (i.e. 'Plate 1' etc.). Please include a biographical outline of some 40 words in your contribution. 254</page><page sequence="5">Society officers and council, 1994-6 President: Dr ANTHONY JOSEPH, FSG Vice Presidents: Professor CHIMEN ABRAMSKY Sir ISAIAH BERLIN, OM, CBE, FBA R.
