<plain_text><page sequence="1">Book Notes Trouwen in Mokum; Jewish Marriage in Amsterdam, 1598-1811, Dave Verdooner and Harmen Snel (The Hague 2000) 2 volumes. ISBN 90-72477 25-1, 1127 pp. The first volume of this work in Dutch and English consists of details of all Jewish marriages registered at Amsterdam's town hall in chronological order from 1598 to 1811. The second volume consists of no fewer than twenty-one indices analysing the chronological list, which are essential to its use. The first thirteen of these relate to Ashkenazi marriages, where the use of pat? ronymics rather than surnames complicates research. With regard to the Sephardi marriages, this book supplements the authors' earlier list of Amster? dam Sephardi Ketubot. Needless to say, this is an essential source book for anyone tracing the genealogy of a Dutch Jewish family. Edgar Samuel</page></plain_text>
