About the event

This talk explores Jewish life in Suffolk not through institutions alone, but through the lived experiences of individuals and families. Moving from visibility to intimacy, it considers how small provincial communities were formed, sustained, and understood through relationships, material traces, and everyday practices. In doing so, it offers a way of seeing communities that are often overlooked, yet deeply embedded within the places they inhabited.

Brian Reeves is a PhD student in Jewish social history at Queen Mary University of London. His research examines women’s roles, familial networks, and childhood within Anglo-Jewry between 1800 and 1890, with a particular focus on provincial communities and the ways their lives are recorded, obscured, or forgotten in the historical archive. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Suffolk, where his dissertation explored Jewish identity, settlement, and demographic decline in Suffolk.

We very much look forward to welcoming you on Zoom to…
