Meet and Contact Us

The NGG is coordinated by a small committee of postgraduate and early-career researchers, supported by colleagues from the wider JHSE. The committee plans events, manages communication, and looks for ways to make the network useful to those working in and around Jewish studies at the start of their careers.

Meet our Committee

Sophie Bellamy

Chair

Sophie (she/her) is a second-year PhD student at Durham University whose Northern Bridge–funded research (with the Tyne and Wear Archives) explores twentieth-century Jewish communal life in North East England. She joined the NGG Board at the start of this academic year and is also part of an interdisciplinary Durham team working with at-risk Jewish heritage in Sunderland.

Rosalie Bernheim

Committee Member

Rosalie (she/her) is a first year Polonsky Postdoctoral Fellow at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute,  specialising in religion and gender in the Middle Ages. She completed her PhD at the University of St Andrews in 2025 and is developing her thesis into a monograph, exploring menstruation, menopause, and identity in medieval Jewish and Christian texts through comparative, multilingual analysis.

Katharina Hadassah Klein (Wendl)

Committee Member

Katharina (she/her) has recently completed her PhD in modern rabbinic literature at the Freie Universität Berlin, where she worked for the research project “Materialized Holiness.” Her research interests include Jewish legal history of the 18th-20th centuries. She is an incoming post-doctoral fellow at Bar-Ilan University.

Brian Reeves

Committee Member

Brian (he/him) is a second-year PhD researcher in History at Queen Mary University of London. His research explores Jewish life in provincial England between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, with particular attention to women, children, families and the networks that sustained everyday life beyond London. Drawing together genealogical, archival and quantitative evidence, his work reconstructs Jewish households across East Anglia and the south-east of England, asking how family, place and local society shaped the experience of Jewish life.

Julie Beuschel

Committee Member
