About the event
The North London branch invite you to this in-person event.
Tony Kushner will be in conversation with Nadia Valman about his latest book, The Jewish Pedlar: An Untold Criminal History.
The book discusses events which occurred in 1734 when a pedlar turned smuggler called Jacob Harris slit the throats of three people in a pub in Sussex. This was the most violent crime ever committed by a British Jew. Tony Kushner describes the enigmatic Harris so as to reconstruct the world of Jewish pedlars and criminals across many continents. Todd Endelman said of the book that it is: "a thoughtful reflection on how the themes of Jewish criminality and Jewish peddling have resonated in British culture."
The talk will be followed by drinks and an opportunity to socialise. Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a heavily discounted rate.
We look forward to seeing you there.
