About the event

Jews have travelled and settled in different places for a multitude of reasons. On the path to find an elusive family Ketubah that would enable our speaker Ed Horwich to get married, he inadvertently unravelled his family’s own migration paths and the stories behind them.

This is the story of two families who challenged the odds, through the shifting balance of the global economy and perils of war. From the Pale of Settlement and the Silk Road, some had to leave their homes, others chose to leave. Why did this happen? And how did the story behind the saying “Next year in Manchester” enable Ed’s marriage.

A fully illustrated talk, with film clips giving the atmosphere of the times they lived through.
