About the event

The North London branch invites you to join them for this in person event with author John Jay, talking about his book 'Ninette's War: A Jewish Story of Survival in 1940s France'.

Ninette’s War – A Jewish Story of Survival in 1940s France describes a teenager coming of age in wartime. Ninette Dreyfus belonged to one of France’s most influential Jewish families, second only to the Rothschilds, and her parents’ social circle ranged from Einstein to Colette. But privilege counted for nothing when the Nazis arrived. Inspired by Ninette’s diary entries and conversations with her before she died, Ninette’s War narrates her family’s fall from grace as Vichy France government collaborated with Nazi Germany. Woven into the backdrop of a nation turning in on itself, the book describes a life once filled with riches becoming rootless, where politicians legislated their own people out of existence.
