About the event

In this talk, Dr. Michael Schraer shows how a few episodes of medieval anti-Jewish violence spread like wildfire, in the manner of pandemic disease, culminating in an extraordinary wave of attacks across Spain in 1391. He shows how the resultant mass conversion was the precursor to Inquisition and expulsion in 1492 and so represents the key turning point for Sephardi Jewry.

Michael Schraer researches and writes primarily on the economic history of medieval Spanish Jews. He also teaches widely on Spanish history.

This is a hybrid event and can be joined in person or online. The Zoom details will be sent through your ticket.
