About the event
By the mid-second century, various gentile Christianities had bloomed in the city of
Rome. They all evinced a principled opposition to Jews and to Judaism. A scant century
before, the messianic movement that served as their source had been housed securely
within late Second Temple Judaism. How, when, and why did this shift of sensibilities
occur? And how did rhetorics adversus Iudaeos affect the lived experience of Roman
Jews?
