About the event

Speaker Tony Allen will talk about her second cousin twice removed, Dorothy Levitt. She was born in 1882 in Hackney to Jacob Levi and Julia Raphael. From 1903-1910 she took up racing becoming the first British female motor racing driver, speed boat racer and (probably) aviator. She took part in the inaugural Brighton Speed Trials on Madeira Drive in 1905, broke the ladies land speed record twice and won many competitions throughout the UK, Germany and France. Her speed boat racing at Cowes brought her to the attention of the King and Queen and it was suggested she taught the Queen's children to drive. She died 100 years ago in 1922 and is buried in Brighton.

Our next event will take place at Ralli Hall on Tuesday 28th March. There will be an opportunity to socialise before the talk, so please join us at 7.30pm for tea and coffee, cakes and biscuits, the talk will start at about 8.00pm. The talk will also be streamed via Zoom, the details for joining will be included in your email ticket.

We very much look forward to welcoming you at Ralli Hall or on Zoom for this event.
