About the event

The North London branch, invites you to join them for this in person event with art historian Sophie Lachowsky

Barbara Hepworth (1903-1975) was a leading sculptor of the 20th century.

Direct carving, organic shapes, and fascination with colour, reflect her deep connection between human figures and the natural world.

Hepworth was part of a close circle of Jewish émigré artists, architects and designers who brought radical new perspectives to Britain before and during the Second World War.

Coinciding with the exhibition Hepworth in Colour at the Courtauld Gallery (12 June- 06 September 2026), this talk will explore how her body of work deeply engaged with European Modernism and fostered new visions, to expand the story of art.

Sophie is an art historian, independent lecturer, and writer, working with leading institutions and private galleries in the culture and heritage sectors.
