About the event

JHSE Essex Branch welcomes Professor Gavin Schaffer, recently elected President of the Jewish Historical Society of England, to discuss his recently published book 'An Unorthodox History British Jews Since 1945'

Gavin Schaffer is an acclaimed modern historian, now Professor of Modern British History at Manchester Metropolitan University, having previously been a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. His book explores the complexities of inclusion and exclusion of groups outside the mainstream Jewish communities, and their relationships with other minorities in Britain. The book has been described as brave and important, but also lucid and readable.
